large with 268 finishers. On the women's side, Brooklan Rosales (former Centennial/BC/Wyoming) ran 20: 56 for 22nd overall and first women. The first high schooler was Robby Baker (Ridgeview Sr) in 3rd overall in a time of 17:10. He was followed by his teammate Alex Garcia (Sr) at 17:23 and Stockdale sophomore Curtis Kelly 17:28. All three ran at the valley track & field meet this year. Ridgeview won the SWYL title in track and cross country this past year and were undefeated in dual meets. Coach Adam Setzer's girl's cross country team won a valley title in 2008 also. Setzer ran with Cregg Weinmann in a time of 24:44 (might be sandbagging a bit i think with Cregg). Second overall was Ryan Lucker of CSUB who lead quite a few Roadrunners at the race. Ryan ran 17:09. New Roadrunner Cecilia Lopez ran 21:17 and was followed by for CSUBer Kate Patrick who is now the assistant coach for the CSUB cross country. She ran 21:43 and I believe was the fastest school coach in the field. Other recent or current CSUB athletes in the race were Connie King (22:49), Erica Silva (22:53}, and Bethany Lopez (24:45). Quite a few former, current and future Drillers competed in the race. On the former side, Zach Holt (BC) and Andrew Edquist (Washington State) cruised in at 19:55 and their former teammate Christopher Anderson (UCSB & my son) ran 22:30 after taking two months off from running. Current Drillers, Sarah Baker (25:00) and Gabby Lerma (25:11) also ran and Gabby's 4th grade sister finished in 26:21 behind Sarah's mom (Sally 25:58). The Wykoff's were out in numbers. Dad ran 23;13, Harrison (33:30), mom (32:17) and Peter (30:16. In fact, there were a few families running and a lot of pre-teens too.
T-shirts - Each runner must run 3 races once a handicap is established in order to earn a race shirt. Awards - Each runner must compete in three races once a handicap is established to qualify for awards. There will be awards given for overall top ten (best cumulative points in 3 races), and for the top 3 scratch times for male and female. Registration - Starts at 6:10 p.m. and closes at 6:50 p.m. You will be given your handicap time and you will be assigned a number at the registration table after payment of the race fees and signature on the waiver. You will proceed to a corral area where your assigned number will be written on your left forearm. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR NUMBER ON YOUR FOREARM YOU WILL NOT BE COUNTED WHEN YOU CROSS THE FINISH LINE. It is very important that you arrive early to register so that you don't miss your handicapped start. Some runners will start before 7:00 PM, and others will start after. Be sure to get to the start line prior to your start time being announced. No allowance will be made for leaving late. Your Handicap NO WATCHES ALLOWED. The “Goal” of this race is to have all runners finish at the same time (7:30 p.m.). You will be given an initial handicap based upon your first race of the series. Runners establishing a handicap for the first time will start at 7: 15 p.m. (except first race of the season – everyone will start at 7:00) After completing your first race your new handicap will be based upon your scratch time (actual running time) subtracted from 30 minutes. For example, if your scratch time is 20 minutes, your handicap will be 10 minutes (30 min – 20 min = 10 min) and your start time would be 7:10 p.m. so that you would finish at 7:30 p.m. If however, your scratch time is 40 minutes; your handicapped start time would be at 6:50 p.m. (30 min – 40 min = -10 minutes). If you improve your best time your handicap will be adjusted to reflect that, otherwise your handicap does not change. Scoring - You score one point for first place, two points for second place, and three points for third place and so on. The lowest score for your best three races will determine your total score for placement. You must run at least three races (after establishing your handicap) to place and be eligible for awards. Awards are given to the 10 overall lowest cumulative scores. In addition to the handicap awards, runners with the top 3 scratch times for both male and female will receive an award. Sandbaggers - New rule: For any Runner who reaches the 20% improvement mark on any run the following will occur: 1. Regardless of your finishing place in that run, you will be considered as if you ran a 30 minute tape time and placed accordingly. 2. Your placement in that run WILL COUNT as one of your 3 scoring races for consideration in the overall Top Ten finishing. This will be enforced each time you exceed the 20% improvement mark. 3. The race directors have full discretion to enforce the rule. If you have any questions about sandbagging, please see Mike Taylor or Bruce Deeter. The race director has final word.
