  • Since I have not covered a meet at Frontier, I decided to cover the SWYL meet instead of the
    SEYL meet at Foothill. One forgets how far west the campus is from downtown Bakersfield and how
    bad Rosedale traffic is too. When I got out of my car, the first thing I heard was Eminem blasting
    and looked for the car it was coming from and realized it was coming from the scoreboard (which
    was a very nice scoreboard by the way). I felt like I was at a pro sporting event or something.
  • The track was in excellent shape (for dirt that is) and the weather was great. It was a nice sunny
    springlike day with little wind. Frontier has an auto-timing system which is very nice to have at any
    meet and then there was the quaint little signs all around the track.
  • These signs marked all the various starting lines for the different events because the track is too long.
    From what I could surmise, the track is a 440 meter track. The 3200 ends up being 7 and a quarter
    laps long and the 1600 relay has 3 different exchange zones. It makes for an interesting meet
    because it is so unusual. Despite the funky track, everything went smoothly.
  • North and South did not attend this meet.

  • Girls 1600 was won by Tijerra Lynch (Ridgeview 10) who took the lead from the start and her
    teammate took second. Carolin Haney (Stockdale 10) took third. Interestingly, North High's Kaylee
    Moyer (9) did not compete even though she is one of the top SWYL runners.

ATHLETES WHO PARTICIPATE IN THE FROSH-SOPH CHAMPIONSHIP MAY ALSO BE ENTERED IN THE
VARSITY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS ON MAY 7.

There will be unlimited entries in individual events but you are limited to only one team in relay events.  Individuals
are limited to four events in the meet, including relays.  Scratches only, but no new adds or substitutions, will be
allowed after the event sheets are distributed during the week of April 20-24.  

All running events will consist of seeded sections with no finals.  Participants in the horizontal jumps and throwing
events will be allowed four attempts with no finals.  Starting height in the high jump will be two inches below the
lowest mark entered.  Starting height in the pole vault will be six inches below the lowest mark entered.

The league Frosh-Soph team championships will be determined by the results of this meet using the following point
system:  1st=10 pts., 2nd=8 pts., 3rd=6 pts., 4th=4 pts., 5th=2 pts., 6th=1 pt.  Medals will be awarded in each event
for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
