Lee Adams Open - 02/21/09

Meet Recap:

  • This year's Lee Adams was all about the distance races especially the ladies
events. In the distance medley there were only two teams but it was a great
race. Ridgeview's valley cross country team was up against the CSUB squad
and it was quite a race. On the final backstretch Lynch caught and went past
CSUB's Katherine Patrick with an impressive burst of speed that looked like
the move of the race but Patrick dug down deep and retook the lead on the
homestretch for the win. I believe this was Lynch's first 1600 and what a 1600
it was. QUALIFYING MARK JUST TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ARCADIA
    ENTRY IS 13:28.
1 CSUB "A" 13:50
2 Ridgeview TC 13:53.5

  • Speaking off Ridgeview's valley champ cross country team, I noticed the
really nice ring Coach Setzer was sporting today. He said that they had the
ring presentations at halftime at one of the basketball games. I hope to get
one of those before I retire.
  • I missed the men's 5k but I heard it was a good one. Robby's 16:16 is a really
impressive time. Daymon Sandles (Golden Valley) held off all three Drillers
too. In the girl's race, Monica Guzman of Garces won the 5k and just missed
going sub 20 (20:02). QUALIFYING MARK JUST TO BE CONSIDERED FOR
ARCADIA ENTRY IS 15:40 or 9:40/3200.

looks like she is on track to return to state this year. QUALIFYING MARK

Johnson (12) and Gant (12) ran the 200s. Christopher Miller (11) ran the 400
and Mississippi aka Alex Clayton (12) anchored the team with a 2:02 in the
    800. QUALIFYING MARK JUST TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ARCADIA

  • Men's 400m was a good one between two former Liberty teammates.
Cameron graduated in 2007 and Isiah (12) has transferred to Ridgeview this
year but in 2007. they went to state in the 4 x 400. Today Jost got the win. I
walked into the meet as they went whizzing down the homestretch. Valley
cross country champ Justin Vilhauer (10) ran 54.3 in this event and thinks he
would of ran faster if he had been in the faster heat. QUALIFYING MARK
JUST TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ARCADIA ENTRY IS 50.89.

  • Men's Distance Medley Relay was a great race between Ridgeview and
Stockdale that went back and forth. In the final 1600, Baker (11) took over
with the lead but Blair (Stockdale) erased the lead in the first lap. Then they
ran together until the last 200, where Baker put on a great kick for the win
and a PR for the 1600. His 4:40ish 1600 was even more impressive since it
came after his earlier 16:16 5k.  QUALIFYING MARK JUST TO BE
CONSIDERED FOR ARCADIA ENTRY IS 10:59.
1 CSUB Men 10:41.6

Women's 1600m was a repeat of the DMR dual except Lynch (10) was running
against a different CSUB runner. In this race, she didn't have a late race surge but
still ran a very good early season time. Guzman's time was also good especially
since she ran the 5k earlier in the day.
QUALIFYING MARK JUST TO BE
CONSIDERED FOR ARCADIA ENTRY IS 5:19.
1 Connie King CSUB 5:39.1

Men's 1600m was won by 2008 valley cross country champ, Justin Vilhaur (10)
who took the lead from the start and never looked back. His 4:29 was a fine
performance but he expects to get in the low teens this year. In the Bakersfield
high school bragging rights division, Highland's Colin Lewis (11) held off all the
locals for the win. Of course, all the other Bakersfield athletes had already
compete in the DMR (Solis,Slaton,Garcia) or the 5k (Sandals) or both the DMR
and 5k (Baker).

Men's 4x400m Relay saw Rigdeview run a very good early season performance
and the Bakersfield High distance crew aka Team Destruction shattered their old
PR by 14 seconds. Amazingly, Ridgeview's Baker ran a leg of the 4 x 400 and
ended up with 21 very fast laps for the day
