  • The Area meet is the first do or die meet of the season. Qualifiers for Central Section Masters Meet aka Valley
    meet: Division I - four (4) per area meet and Division II - Three (3). The next three best marks from the four (4)
    qualifying meets will fill out the eighteen (18) athlete field. Three more athletes will be selected as alternates
    from the next three (3) best remaining marks. So if one wants to compete at valley, one needs to get in the top
    four. Or run fast and hope you make it in on time.
  • The Area meet is also important for the team title at valley too. There is no team title at the area meet but if a
    school wants to compete for the valley title, it needs to qualify as many athletes as it can. Last year, Central won
    the boy's valley team title with 48 points. Interestingly, Foothill scored 40 points with Dayshan Ragans (winner of
    the discus and shot) and Chris Schwartz (winner of the 1600 and 3200). So every athlete counts. In fact, last
    year at valley, Clovis East came in third with 39 points and Buchanan came in fourth with 36 points.
  • Scoring for the valley meet: 1st - 10pts, 2nd - 8pts, 3rd - 6pts, 4th - 4pts , 5th - 2pts and 6th - 1pt.

The Chase for the Valley Team Title:
  • Dyestatcal has listed it's top 5 teams in the central section HERE. They have the Buchanan boys in first with 104 points
    and Ridgeview with 55 points. Now i know Buchanan has a great team and having the state meet at your home track is a
    huge motivator. I do believe, the valley meet maybe closer then predicted.
  • Dyestat predicts 40 points from the track and 15 points by Johnny Carter (state champ 08) in the horizontal jumps. But
    Ridgeview could get more on the track.
  • In the 100, Johnny Carter might get in the top 6.
  • Isiah Purvis is ranked number 2 in the 200 and number 1 in the 400.
  • Jerrid Lewis should score in the 800 and could win the event. The top six in the valley are less then a second apart and
    Jerrid has shown the ability to run people down on the homestretch.
  • The long shots in the 1600 and 3200, Robby Baker and Alex Garcia could sneak into the top six in one of the races
    perhaps. Plus Corey Hobbs could score in the 100 and 200.
  • Lastly, their 400 relay is 3rd best in the valley and number one in the 1600 relay.
