The course was very challenging and the competition was stiff, but 3 runners made the top 20 and are hoping to travel to Virginia next week to represent Lamont at the National Championships. The three qualifiers are: Abraham Preciado, Emily Villa and Neftali Santos. Abraham held on tenaciously to 20th place in the bantam boys 3k race with a time of 14:13. Emily had to come from behind in the last 200 meters to pass another runner and secure her berth to nationals with a time of 15:03. Finally Neftali ran a very steady race to finish 19th in the youth boys 4K race with a time of 14:15. Mr. Hatley is very proud of all the runners who competed. They worked very hard. Look for the whole team in the Lamont Christmas Parade. They will also be traveling to the Southern California Championships in Torrance on Dec. 14th. Anyone wishing to help support these athletes with donations or sponsorships may contact Coach Hatley at Alicante School. Athletes are required to submit an entry form only at the first level of competition, as advancement is based upon performance (i.e., an athlete cannot directly submit an entry form for the Regional competition; he/she must have competed and advanced at the Association meet). Click here to get started in your Association's program! Advancement See USATF Competition Rule 305.3 for specific rules on qualifying for the National Championships. Generally, the first 20 individual finishers and first three teams in each age division at the Regional Championships will qualify for the National Championships. Athletes and teams from some Associations will qualify directly from their Association Championships as follows: top 10 individuals and 1st team in each age division. Contact your local association or regional meet director to learn more about how to qualify for the National Championships, or visit the Junior Olympic Cross Country information page. Participant numbers are fixed and no alternate athletes may advance if qualifying athletes or teams choose not to enter the National Championships. |
